Here's one for the hydraulic wisards....I have an older Agro Trend 7 foot blower with a manual, crank type chute rotator. I want to convert the crank to use a hydraulic motor now that I have a cab tractor. I intend to simply fab a bracket to hold the motor, cut the crank handle off and connect the remaining shaft to the motor. The problem is that I am not sure what size hydraulic motor to use...any thoughts would be appreciated.

Since you don't need power nor speed any motor would do--in fact any gear-type hyraulic pump will work too. Use a manually adjustable metering valve or reduce the size of the hoses/fittings or install a restrictor in the lines if the motor is too fast.
Murf here on the board from Cananda-want-some-beer-eh? mentioned on another recent post using a cheapy 12v elecric winch (Harbor Freight Tools has them for about $50) and wind the cable around the chute a couple times and around the winch a couple times too. The setup comes with heavy wire and 2-way switch. ....

As Jeff mentioned, the 'down & dirty' method is merely a cheapo 12v. winch as used on an ATV.
If you want to use hydraulics, a hydraulic motor is a) overkill in terms of complexity, and b) way more $$$ than necessary.
Just use a small 2 way hydraulic cylinder from Princess Auto to push a lever (so as to multiply the distance the cable will travel and reduce the power) to which a loop of cable passing around the chute (and staked to it) is attached. This way the cable spins the chute both directions and is infinitely adjustable.
Both the electric winch and the hydraulic cylinder are around $100 each. The cylinder is the preferred way to go IMHO. Both would require about the same amount of fabricating, however Agro Trend already has a hydraulic rotator option so it would probably be very easy to adapt yours, they usually share some common mounts for both crank and hydraulic rotation.
Best of luck. ....

Thanks Murf, guy down on the next concession has a brand new Agro Trend, just a little one on a 25hp Kabota but same construction, the shute uses a hydraulic cylinder but the conglomeration of pulleys, bell cranks and clevises looks like some sort of midevil creation better suited to foysting boiling oil over the ramparts than turning a shoot. After having a look at this deal I figured the hydraulic motor oozed simplicity and as I already have the remotes it seemed too easy.
The winch deal is worth considering, same principal, same simplicity....Let you know how I make out.
Appreciate both your thoughts and Earthwrks as well, Many Thanks.

I'm just south east of Lake Simcoe. I know that area very well, I have property (vacant waterfront) in Victoria Harbour.
I'm not far away, if you get stuck for something give me a whistle, we can meet at Princess Auto in Barrie and have one of Timmies best. LOL
Best of luck. ....
